The process involves a cut that is midway between plain-sawn and quarter-sawn, resulting in a straight-grained appearance. Rift Sawn White Oak is characterized by a tight, straight grain with heartwood that ranges from light to medium brown and may sometimes have an olive hue. The sapwood of the wood is almost always nearly white to light brown and may not always be clearly distinguishable from the heartwood.
